Spinal dural arteriovenous fistula : a case report

Authors

  • Marzie Adabi Babol University of Medical Sciences
Abstract:

Background: Spinal dural AVF is the most common type of spinal vascular malformation. However, presenting symptoms differ according to site of spinal involvement. This study described a case of arteriovenous malformation with paraparesis and incontinence. Case Presentation: Diagnosis of patient was confirmed by clinical and imaging examination using magnetic resonance image and ruling out other possibilities Result: A definitive diagnosis of arterio venous fistula was confirmed by clinical and MRI examination and demonstrated abnormalities compatible with dural arteriovenous fistula. Conclusion: Dural arteriovenous fistula should be considered in patients with paresis in both lower extremities.

Spinal Dural Arteriovenous Fistula

Spinal dural arteriovenous fistulas are a rare and underdiagnosed pathology. Rapid diagnosis and treatment are, however, major determining factors for the outcome of the disease. The spontaneous course of this pathology can result in a substantial degree of morbidity that may be irreversible. Proper interpretation of the MRI imaging, and particularly the medullar angiography, allow for an appro...

A rare case of spinal dural arteriovenous fistula

Spinal dural arteriovenous fistula (SDAVF) is a rare vascular malformation of the spine. Only a limited number of cases of SDAVF have been reported in the current literature. We describe the case of a 74 year old male who presented with gradually progressive bilateral lower extremity weakness and bladder dysfunction and was subsequently diagnosed with SDAVF affecting both the thoracic and lumba...

CASE REPORT Double Spinal Dural Arteriovenous Fistulas

A. El-Serwi A. Maubon J. Vidal R. Chapot SUMMARY: We present a patient with double spinal dural arteriovenous fistulas revealed by progressive myelopathy. Numerous dilated veins extending along the entire length of the spinal cord were found on MR imaging. Angiography showed a first spinal dural fistula at the level of T7 with descending venous drainage and a second spinal dural fistula at the ...

CASE REPORT Spinal dural arteriovenous fistula in a case with lipomyelodys- plasia

Coexistence of a spinal dural arteriovenous fistula within a dysraphic spinal lesion is a very rare situation. We report a 40-year-old man who presented with low back pain and progressive paraparesis. MR images showed an intradural high signal intensity mass at the L2–L3 level containing irregular signal void structures. Spinal angiography revealed extradural arteriovenous fistula with three co...

A case report of spinal dural arteriovenous fistula: origins, determinants, and consequences of abnormal vascular malformations

A spinal dural arteriovenous fistula is an abnormally layered connection between radicular arteries and venous plexus of the spinal cord. This vascular condition is relatively rare with an incidence of 5-10 cases per million in the general population. Diagnosis of spinal dural arteriovenous fistula is differentiated by contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance angiography or structural magnetic reso...
